Help us build a round wood timber-framed pole lathe shelter
The moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived. Coppicewood volunteer days
will restart on Thursday 30th June and continue every Thursday throughout the summer. Following the completion of the main building last year we now need to build a pole lathe shelter. Ian has designed the building and will oversee the construction, and Tamsin will
organise the volunteers. The building will be an A-frame construction, similar to the one at our old Cwm Plysgog site.
Because of the varying nature of the tasks and the need to keep control of the work we ask that you let us know if you plan to attend on any given day; please e-mail tamsinagear@gmail.com
We’ll normally start at 10am and finish around 4pm.
Hope to see you soon.

Once you have arrived at the entrance to Pengelli Forest, go through the kissing gate and proceed along the main track for 1/2 mile. The entrance to our compound is on the left through a gated entrance.
Turn right from the A487 (if travelling from Cardigan towards Fishguard) into a small unsigned lane which leads to towards Pont-gareg and eventually to Felindre Farchog. It is the turn after the one which goes down towards Moelgrove. Once on the lane just keep going straight, ignoring all turns off the lane, and the entrance to Pengelli Forest will be on the left as you drive down a steep hill. There is plenty of car parking at the entrance.
Early this year Coppicewood College was pleased to welcome back Tŷ Pren, to build our new compost toilet. While never the most glamorous of topics the new facility will deliver real benefits for the college and Wildlife Trust. The building is handcrafted and was made by Jamie Miller of Tŷ Pren and the participants of their sixth annual Timber Framing Course, held in Lampeter, in the Autumn of 2020.
The compost toilet has a 360 litre capacity (a large wheelie bin full) that will require emptying only every six months or so. It includes a solid and liquid separation system. The urine can be sequestered, treated, and used as a low carbon fertilizer in the surrounding woodlands. Spreading the benefits! The facility will be used by staff and volunteers at the Coppicewood College and Wildlife Trust at the Pengelly Woodlands.
Jamie was our first apprentice at Coppicewood College, and we are always glad to welcome him and the Tŷ Pren team back.
As our current lease expires in June 2022 we have been looking for an alternative woodland to operate in and we are delighted to announce that we will be taking up residence on a 25 year lease in Pengelli woods an SSSI woodland with a particular rare habitat for Dormice.
The Workshop is now finished and the compost loo will be complete before Christmas.
If you are attending a pre-course interview and have been asked to come to Pengelli here are the directions.

Although this marks the end of an era it is also the beginning of a new chapter for Coppicewood College. With that in mind, we are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for our 2021 woodland skills course. This course will be led at our new location in Pengelli Forest.
